What will I learn from the TT program that I wouldn't get from just taking group classes?

The Teacher Training program is a systematic and highly detailed course with class materials and handouts going over 17 dances as both a leader and a follower. You will learn the language of ballroom dancing in a fluent manner and learn how to teach a proper group class and private lessons. The main purpose of a regular group class is to teach you how to dance and that's where it stops. The Teacher Training program's goal is to not only teach you how to dance, but also to teach you how to teach dance.

What does the the tuition cover?

The tuition will provide you with 32 class sessions, an EDTA binder with detailed class materials, 4 exams, and if passed, an EDTA certification of completion of the course. You will also get the benefit of participating in any of the regular groups classes offered and free practice time when the studio is open.

What happens when I miss a class? How do I make it up?

You can either get together with a classmate and go over the materials missed in the class or take a private lesson with the EDTA instructor.

I'm attending classes and doing the homework, but I'm not doing as well as I think I should be doing. What do you recommend I do to improve?

The most effective way to improve is to practice, practice, practice. You can also take additional private lessons to complement your classes.

Can I just take one semester instead of all four? Do I get a certification for just completing one semester?

The complete Teacher Training Bronze program is a 16 month course broken down into 4 semesters with each semester consisting of 4 months. You can take any semester in any order and after completion of each semester, you will get a certificate of completion after passing the semester exams. You do not have to take all the semesters but remember the more dances you know, the more opportunities you will have to teach.

I want to complete the entire program (four semesters) but I need to take a break in the middle. Can I pick up from where I left off at a later time?

The Teacher Training program is on-going so you can take any semester in any order. There are no dependencies between each semester. If you miss a semester, you can take it the next time around when it's offered again.

Do I need to go to group classes? Can I just drop in to a single class when I have the time or must I attend all classes in a series?

The group classes are a great way to practice for Teacher Trainees. All group class participants including Teacher Trainees must follow the group class series policy by enrolling in all the classes in the series. There are absolutely no drop-in's in any of the classes.

What happens if I miss an exam? Are there makeups? Can I retake an exam I scored poorly on?

Missed exams can be taken later or over again by scheduling a time with the EDTA instructor at the private lesson rate. There are no limitations on the number of times a person can take the exam.

What am I supposed to wear to class?

Proper attire is very important when teaching dance. It not only makes you look like a professional, it also makes you feel good. You should treat the Teacher Training classes as if you are teaching the class and everyone is looking at you. You should be aware that as a teacher, students will need to see your feet and body movements so you should avoid very loose clothing.
